ZTELEC YUGUANG supplied three 110 kV power transformers for a national power grid project in the Dominican Republic.
The project included one 40 MVA transformer and two 50 MVA transformers, manufactured according to IEC 60076 requirements. The transformers were customized for the project’s coastal installation environment, site construction conditions and long-term grid operation.

The project required different transformer capacities within the same grid application. ZTELEC YUGUANG manufactured:
The transformer design was developed according to the project’s electrical requirements and site conditions, with a focus on reliable operation within a national transmission and distribution network.
All units were manufactured according to IEC 60076, covering the applicable requirements for power transformers.
For the main transformers, customized Hitachi bushings were selected according to the project’s technical requirements.
The bushing configuration was coordinated with the transformer design to ensure proper electrical insulation, connection and installation at the 110 kV voltage level.
In addition to the bushings, the bushing and surge arrester layout was customized according to the actual site conditions.

The project is located in a coastal environment, where high humidity, salt spray and atmospheric corrosion can significantly affect outdoor electrical equipment.
To address this condition, C5-class corrosion protection was applied to the transformer tanks and radiators.
The customized coating system provides enhanced protection for the external steel components and is particularly suitable for demanding outdoor environments with elevated corrosion exposure.
For large power transformers installed in coastal substations, appropriate surface preparation and coating protection are important for maintaining the mechanical condition and service life of the transformer enclosure and cooling components.
The three transformers were manufactured with a 4-month lead time.
Because 110 kV power transformers are highly customized electrical equipment, the manufacturing process requires coordination between transformer design, electrical components, bushings, cooling systems, tank fabrication, coating and routine testing.
The project was therefore organized around the customer’s technical specifications and site requirements to ensure that the final transformer configuration was suitable for field installation.
