Project Overview

As part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation in Ethiopia, ZTELEC YUGUANG supplied a 110kV 30MVA oil-immersed power transformer for an industrial park power supply project.

The project required a reliable transformer solution capable of operating under high-altitude conditions, grid voltage fluctuations and demanding industrial loads. The transformer was customized with 100% copper windings, reinforced insulation and an On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) to provide stable and reliable power distribution.

Transformer Solution for Ethiopia BRI Project

The industrial park required stable medium- and high-voltage power to support continuous industrial production. Considering the local operating environment, the transformer design focused on four key requirements:

  • High-altitude operation up to 2,500 m
  • Stable voltage regulation through OLTC
  • High short-circuit withstand capability with copper windings
  • Enhanced insulation and outdoor protection for reliable long-term operation

High-Altitude Design

The transformer is designed for operation at an altitude of up to 2,500 m. Enhanced insulation and creepage distance help compensate for reduced air density and dielectric strength in high-altitude areas.

On-Load Tap Changer for Grid Stability

The integrated On-Load Tap Changer provides a regulation range of 110kV ±8 × 1.25%, helping maintain stable output voltage when the industrial park experiences grid voltage fluctuations and changing loads.

100% Copper Windings

The transformer uses high-conductivity copper windings to reduce electrical losses and improve thermal performance. The reinforced winding structure also provides strong mechanical resistance under short-circuit conditions, making it suitable for industrial power applications.
