How Big A Box Transformer Should Be Used For A 1-To-8 Charging Station?

04-30 2025 | By:

1. Professional answer: How to scientifically calculate the capacity of the box transformer?

For the “one-to-eight” charging pile scenario that users are concerned about, we recommend the following steps for accurate calculation:

Power benchmark calculation

DC fast charging pile: single-gun power 120kW (mainstream model)

AC slow charging pile: single-gun power 21kW (national standard model adaptation)

Typical configuration plan

Scheme A: full DC fast charging (8×120kW)

Total power demand: 960kW

Requirement coefficient is 0.7 (national standard recommended value)

Calculated load: 960×0.7=672kW

Apparent power: 672/0.9≈750kVA

800kVA box transformer

800kVA box transformer

It is recommended to use 800kVA box transformer

Scheme B: Hybrid configuration (4 fast charging + 4 slow charging)

Fast charging load: 4×120×0.7=336kW

Slow charging load: 4×21×0.9=75.6kW

Total calculated load: 411.6kW

Apparent power: 411.6/0.9≈457kVA

Recommended to use 500kVA box transformer

II. Product advantages: Core competitiveness of intelligent box transformer

Our charging pile dedicated box transformer adopts modular design, which meets market demand:

Dynamic load adjustment system

Equipped with intelligent power distribution module (IPDM)

Real-time monitoring of the use status of each pile

Automatically optimize power distribution

More The system saves 15%-20% energy

Full-scenario adaptability

Voltage level: 10kV/20kV/35kV flexible configuration

Capacity range: 315kVA-2500kVA module combination

Protection level: IP54 outdoor protection standard

Temperature control system: -40℃~+45℃ wide temperature range operation

Smart operation and maintenance system

Remote monitoring platform (supports Web/APP dual-end)

Fault self-diagnosis system (accuracy ≥98%)

Power quality analysis module

Preventive maintenance reminder function

Typical case: a charging station in a logistics park

Configuration plan: 6 180 kW DC charging pile + 2 40kW AC charging piles

Equipment selected: Smart Secondary Unit Substation Box Type Transformer Substation

Operation data: average daily charging volume 4200kWh

Energy conversion efficiency: ≥96%

Fault response time: <15 minutes (remote diagnosis)

IV. Future upgrade planning outlook

Our European Box-Type Transformer E-House products have integrated:

Photovoltaic storage and charging integrated interface

V2G bidirectional inverter module

5G communication edge computing unit

Carbon footprint monitoring system

Choosing our Outdoor Box type Substation can not only meet the current “one to eight” operation needs, but also reserve 20% capacity space for subsequent expansion. Through the energy efficiency management system, it is expected that the operating cost can be reduced by 18%-25% within 3 years, helping customers to build efficient, intelligent and sustainable new energy infrastructure.
