The customer is a power generation equipment manufacturer and contractor serving the Chilean power grid. Based on the project’s electrical and installation requirements, the transformer solution was customized for local distribution applications.
The 2000 kVA transformers support different electrical configurations, including:
A double high-voltage winding design was also incorporated according to the project requirements, providing greater flexibility for different grid connection configurations.
Chile is located in a highly seismic region, making mechanical strength and seismic resistance important considerations when selecting transformers.
For this project, the dry type transformers incorporated the company’s patented anti-seismic design. The seismic protection requirements were customized with reference to the IEC AG5 classification, according to the customer’s project requirements.
The design focused on improving the transformer’s mechanical stability during seismic events, including structural reinforcement and secure fixing of key components.
The supplied transformers were primarily designed for indoor installation. For projects requiring outdoor installation, the transformer solution can also be integrated with a customized enclosure with IP55 protection, subject to the project environment and technical specifications.
This flexible configuration allows the transformer to be adapted to different installation conditions and distribution applications.
For power distribution projects in earthquake-prone regions, transformer selection should consider not only electrical parameters but also mechanical and environmental requirements.
Key considerations include:
The successful supply of 10 × 2000 kVA dry type transformers demonstrates the ability to customize transformer solutions for demanding seismic environments.
By combining customized electrical parameters, multiple vector groups and anti-seismic structural design, the solution met the customer’s requirements for Chilean power distribution applications.
10 Sets | 2000 kVA | 14.2/0.4 kV & 13.2/0.48 kV | Dry Type | Anti-Seismic Design | Chile
This project provides a practical reference for dry type transformer applications in earthquake-prone areas, particularly for distribution networks, industrial facilities and infrastructure projects in Chile and other seismic regions.
