When the volume of transformer oil expands or decreases with the temperature of the oil, the oil pillow plays the role of regulating the oil volume and ensuring that the transformer oil tank is always full of oil. If there is no oil pillow, the fluctuation of the oil level in the oil tank will bring the following adverse factors: First, when the oil level drops, the exposed iron core and coil parts will affect the heat dissipation and insulation; second, as the oil level fluctuates, air is discharged and sucked in from the gap of the tank cover, and because the upper oil temperature is very high, the oil is quickly oxidized and damp. The oil surface of the oil pillow is smaller than the oil surface of the oil tank. In this way, the contact area between the oil and the air can be reduced, preventing the oil from being oxidized and damp too quickly. Third, the oil in the oil pillow rarely participates in the circulation in the oil tank under normal circumstances. Its temperature is much lower than the temperature of the upper oil in the oil tank, and the oxidation process of the oil is also much slower. Therefore, with an oil pillow, the oil can be prevented from being oxidized too quickly.

Reduce oxidation: The oil is only in contact with the air in the oil pillow, reducing the chance of oil being damp and oxidized, and slowing down the aging of the oil.
Automatic adjustment of oil level: The oil pillow stores oil when the oil temperature rises, replenishes oil when the temperature drops, and automatically adjusts the oil level.
Deposited impurities: Moisture, dust and oxidized oil stains absorbed from the air are deposited at the bottom of the oil pillow, slowing down the deterioration of the oil.
